General Chit Chat

So uh, hey, hows it going? That's good. Well, uh, things aren't so good here.

A little background, my aunt on my mom's side has basically been my second mom my whole life. I have never wanted for anything, she's always been there to help me with everything. A lot of what I am today and what I have accomplished in my life has been because of her support. I will admit, she has driven me crazy more than a couple of times, but throughout it all, I love her just as much as my parents. I should also point out that she took me and LID in at a low point in our relationship after I left Walmart and before I started work with Movie Gallery, and we still live with her.

Well, shes been sick lately. Real sick. Today marks three weeks she has been in the hospital, and we have now found out she is in the fourth stage of cirrhosis of the liver. What this means, is she is in the last stages of an irreversible, chronic liver disease that is causing her liver to go into failure. And, without a liver transplant, I may very well lose one of the most supportive people in my life soon. Words can't describe how this hurts to think about, but I force it down, I have to be strong for my mom, my wife, my uncle.

I've basically become the housewife of the house, since I'm the only person living here without a job. I don't have a way of going out and looking, and quite frankly, with my aunt's illness, there's no sense in looking since I might have to rush to her side at a moment's notice.

I know its not like me to ramble, and I appreciate all who read this. I just needed this off my chest. Never forget GU, you're my second family, and right now, I need ya. If I learn anything new, I'll be sure to let you know.

Randal, you've got my support, and your aunt is in my prayers.

What's the likelihood of her getting a transplant?

Is it too late for a transplant?  Has a donor been sought?

I pray for her and your family.

At this point I don't know anything about the donor situation. We literally JUST found out about the need for one. However, she has been transferred to Emory University Hospital, one of the best hospitals in all of GA, and home of several liver specialists.

Sorry to hear it, man. Like you said, ole G had her bad times, but she never really meant any harm in what she said or did. Hope she makes it through this ok.

She will also be in my prayers, Randal. I know whatever Heavenly Father desires for her, will be for her good in the end. Hang in there, it'll be okay. Somehow.

Well guys, shes back home as of today. The specialist she visited has decided on her having an auto immune disease, meaning her body was attacking her liver as if it were a virus or other threat. This caused the cirrhosis. While they cant reverse the damage already done, her liver is stable. She is on a series of steroids to suppress her immune system, keeping it from attacking her liver any further. If she is stronger/better in a month or so, she is going to be placed on the donor list and stand a chance of receiving a new liver.
