PS3 Blu Ray problem?
So, my PS3 slim decided today it didn't want to play Blu Ray disks anymore.  Movies, games, it didn't matter, they just would not load.  DVDs and CDs are just fine, but Blu Ray disks are a no-go.  I don't get any errors when I put one in, but the disks just will not start.  After a few seconds of inserting a Blu Ray disk into the console, it makes a sound as if it's ejecting the disk, but it doesn't eject.

I really have no idea how to tackle this.  I just bought the damn thing.  Any suggestions, short of "buy a new one!"?

System Settings > Restore Default Settings. (Make sure you do NOT hit "Restore PS3 System" by accident, as that'll erase everything. Save games included.)

Re: PS3 Blu Ray problem?
Nothin'.  Still same issue. =\

EDIT

Well I just got off the phone with sony support.  After troubleshooting, doing things I've mostly already done (tongue) and assuring them I have not tried to modify my system in any way, they gave me a service number and are shipping out a box.  Thankfully, I managed to get ahold of GameStop's offices and get a proof of purchase sent over to Sony, since I lost the receipt in my recent move.  That'll save me about $120 in service fees.

But, seriously, two months.  Two months.  That's all it took for this thing's blu ray drive to crap out.  I dunno, that doesn't seem like a very good run to me.

Re: PS3 Blu Ray problem?
The box from Sony finally arrived today.  They have my proof of purchase, so it'll be free.  I'm sending it in tomorrow.  Hopefully I'll get it back before too long.

Re: PS3 Blu Ray problem?
It was probably just a defective unit. It happens. It sucks, but when you make hundreds of thousands of these complex products, some duds get through. And thanks to basic QA the duds people get are exactly like what you describe. They seem fine for awhile and then they die. If they were immediately messed up you'd never have been sold it as their QA would have taken it back.

PS3 Blu Ray problem?
Yeah.  I got it back on Tuesday, though, and so far no issues.  Smiley

Re: PS3 Blu Ray problem?
Well to be fair, you more than likely did not get "it" back. They probably took another refurbed unit and adjusted the serials maybe to make it match your returned one. It's faster turn around that way.

PS3 Blu Ray problem?
Yeah but its all the same to me tongue. The turn around was fast as hell; I waited on the box longer than the console.
