maybe it's not actually 3-D at all, the demo looked more like if you moved it around then you see it from a different perspective. That's different. I guess. Still, games of this type will probably be more expensive and need to hold more data. Unless I'm wrong...

That wasn't a demo, that was a DSiWare game.  Like Sophia said, this thing will be more advanced than the DS, and able to do more.  Remember how big the leap from Gameboy to Gameboy Advance was?

Interesting article speculating the possible tech from someone who works with developing glasses-free 3D tech. Basically, there's definitely more to it than the headtracking we've already seen on the DSi.

Small update, but I found out about this on Gamedev.net and figured I'd share. The image doesn't show much to me, but I  didn't exactly try identifying the components on the mobo

Those images confirm that the display will be a widescreen one like that of the PSP. Unfortunately, too difficult to spot anything else really. There looks to be an analog nub of sorts in the corner tho.

It only looks like one screen is widescreen though.  I'm really intrigued.  Looking forward to hearing more at E3.

Entirely possible (and probably, given Nintendo's history) that the bottom screen is just a standard DS screen right now. I wouldn't be surprised if the final product had widescreens, one was touch, and one was 3D.

That's actually something I, for some reason, haven't even thought about.  The new DS (has 3DS actually been confirmed as the real name?  Blech.  That name kinda sucks.) will likely be nearly as powerful as the GameCube was.

3DS seems to be the official name. There's no reason to file 3DSware as a trademark if it wasn't.

I'm pretty certain Nintendo considers this the flat out successor to the DS. The announcement would have been far more random otherwise, and far less surprising.

I think that was what PG was saying: this isn't just a new DS (as in DSLite, DSi, DSiXL) but a new platform as in a successor, like the SNES was to the NES, the GBA to the GameBoy, etc.

I'm pretty sure all three of us are saying the exact same thing :V

But yea, new platform, and not a retooled DS. Theoretically, you could hamfist some newfangled display on a DS and call it a day, but the callsign is new, meaning we're looking at a new platform with new guts and new games, and we haven't actually seen that since the DS came out years ago, so as a portable device whore, I'm totally excited.

One things for sure.....
