And why do we need the bloody slingshot when we have a bow? AGAIN?
Upgrade, also, so we can toss "nuts" and make bad jokes about it. =P

Poor showing from Zelda this year. It's a good thing the rest of Nintendo's lineup was absolutely stellar. If they had used Zelda as a crutch again like previous E3's, it'd be a pretty bland show. Especially since Zelda's tech demo failed to even work properly. Plus, they haven't even shown anything particularly exciting besides the art and two items that have more or less appeared in Zelda in varying forms already.
I don't think Zelda had a bad showing. The technical issues weren't their fault. It was the hundreds of people in the audience creating insane wireless pollution. I do agree they couldn't rely on this one title. It seems like Nintendo has done that lately, like when Mario Galaxy seemed like the only "core" title they had coming.
This year they had a very nice event, and have interesting things coming. I would like to play this new Zelda when it comes out, atleast to give it a try. After this E3 I'll actually buy a new Wii console after having sold mine long ago.

Re: Zelda Wii Updates
I really was a Wii now. Of course, I've always wanted a Wii, but I have more motivation to get one now.
Anyway, anyone notice a mismatch here? The enemies seem very Wind Wakerish, while Link is, of course, more realistic and Twilight Princessish. Very, very strange.
Also, I'm confused by the return of the Slingshot yet again when we saw how worthless it was in TP. o.o
However, overall, I'm really excited about the game: the full-motion sword control looks hot and awesome.

Last year had two Marios and a Metroid codeveloped with Team Ninja. Nintendo couldn't have been more blunt with fed up fans even if they shouted "HERE'S YOUR HARDCORE GAMES. SHUT THE BLOODY HELL UP".
This year's lineup was the kinda stuff Nintendo's desperately needed, as if they sat down and came up with every wet dream a Nintendo fan has had (Golden Sun, Goldeneye, Kirby, Donkey Kong COUNTRY, Kid Icarus headlining a 3D handheld launch with 3rd party titles that matter). Zelda got totally overshadowed because it hasn't brought anything new or surprising besides the art shift. It was "Just a Zelda", and not "Oh sh*t a Zelda!" Just no impact like it used to.

Re: Zelda Wii Updates
The new Zelda looks like it's going to have some interesting puzzles. The videos didn't really show much.
No real story was revealed, no overmap, and everything else seemed really vague.
At this point all we have are those rumors floating around for the most part.
I hope it's not like Phantom Hourglass. That game had some nice puzzles, but the story sucked, and didn't give much background for the end boss.
All they basically did was say "here's your boss". He's a demon that terrorizes this land. No background story, or any real history.

Re: Zelda Wii Updates
If you want a good story, Zelda's not the place to go, boyo. Exploration is the true hook of the Zelda franchise. Which is precisely what everyone is most interested in (game structure. and the motion plus controls, though I don't think anyone was surprised to see what was show) and precisely what the company didn't address whatsoever.
Plus, Nintendo's management doesn't exactly look into hiring top quality writers, as the narrative of just about every one of their games implies. Gameplay and player experience is what they aim to perfect.

Do you base that opinion on the trailers? Judging from the trailers, the targeted audience seems to be the same as for TP and WW, so actually I'm kinda worried that the dungeons and other puzzles will be very easy and straight-forward again.

Forget that. If you want story
period
, you need to look elsewhere. Zelda's story can only be described as atrocious.
I'm totally digging the new motion controls, after seeing them used properly. Also, WHIIIIPING. YEEEEAH~!

Re: Zelda Wii Updates
Here's the story of the new zelda. Spoiler alert.
A badguy did something bad. Link has to find some stuff from dungeons and beat the badguy. Oh and also there's a magic sword person.
In any case, PG is right. Zelda was never supposed to be a story-heavy franchise. Sure, there's a plot and a basic story, but the focus was, and should, be on exploration and puzzle solving.

Re: Zelda Wii Updates
Exploration and puzzles are nice, but I also would like some background story.
I'm not talking about an awesome story.
Ocarina Of Time, Majora's Mask, Wind Waker all had good background stories.
This shouldn't be hard to do in my opinion.

Hey! Hold the phone! Give credit where credit is due! Yeto's dialog is some of the most well-crafted prose of our generation!
LOOK INTO YETO'S EYES AND TELL ME YOU DON'T START CRYING. LOOK AT THEM.
Also, whip was in Spirit Tracks. And if it's anything like that, it should be really rad. Sadly they didn't demo it much so we don't know if it'll have the neat features from the previous installment.

Yes, but Spirit Tracks was not on the Wii. I wanna go around whipping people in real life and screaming like a madman. Can't do that with a stylus. D:

Re: Zelda Wii Updates
Yes, I really hope they let us whip people just to hear them scream or yell at us.
Be really cool if they would fight back in some way like with Z1.
Twilight Princess has a nice theme to it, and a decent story. There's some more Zelda games, but not going to list them all.
Just give me a little background story of this boss(whoever he/she is) and I'll be happy.

A new video has been made.
This shows you a bit more game play, the fighting, bottles, and a peek at the world map.

Looks like the green meter is for running. And Link can do wall kicks like Mario 64...

I really like the idea that the game doesn't pause if you call the menu. Makes you stay alert for enemies while choosing a weapon.

Re: Zelda Wii Updates
It seems Link knows nothing about the land below (Hyrule) and will be guided by the Skyward Sword to help him find his way. He's also will be traveling between the two worlds. Hyrule and Skyloft.
The skyward sword will most likely become the Master Sword.
Quote
In an interview with Gamespot, producer Eiji Aonuma clarified some of the finer points of Skyward Sword‘s storyline – namely that the Skyward Sword is found above the clouds in Skyloft and not below the ground. Furthermore, he continues on to say that prior to his finding the Skyward Sword, Links character knows nothing about a land beneath the clouds – in fact, none of the residents of Skyloft are aware of any other world outside of Skyloft.
He also stated that it is the Skyward Sword that guides Link below the clouds in order to vanquish the evil forces that live there, and that Skyward Sword will focus heavily on the reason why there are two lands divided by a bank of clouds, with Link traveling constantly between the two worlds.
In addition, Aonuma also spoke about Zelda’s new MotionPlus controls, stating that the Zelda teams hopes to make them the standard “Link” controls for the foreseeable future – even if Nintendo’s next console doesn’t have MotionPlus-style controls. Aonuma wants to do everything he can to ensure that these controls remain the norm for Zelda.
Of course, his comments about the story just keep making us think: If Skyward Sword is meant to explain the origin of the Master Sword… what’s the origin of the Skyward Sword? I think we’re going to need another game to explain that one.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7FRpF9K7SI
Quote
In an interview with Joystiq, which covered everything from Donkey Kong to Kid Icarus, Shigeru Miyamoto let it slip that Skyward Sword actually takes place in Hyrule while discussing the importance of the new MotionPlus controls:
“Even something as simple as the aiming, which is handled not necessarily with a pointer but by moving your hand around, just like you would aim an item in real life, will make it that much easier for you to feel like you’re in that world of Hyrule and experiencing the adventure that Link is, because you’re so connected to what’s going on.”
Miyamoto also went on to talk about Skyward Sword‘s unique graphical style, explaining that it was necessary in order to create exaggerated characters and enemies to help players more easily understand and use the MotionPlus controls.
That Skyward Sword takes place in Hyrule is big news, considering that we’ve been told Link is a boy born in Skyloft, a land above the clouds. Although this is only speculation, it could mean that the land beneath the clouds is, in fact, Hyrule – or will become Hyrule. Only time will tell!
