I was last mentioned in this thread almost an entire year ago. I still would like to think of myself as Open Zelda's project manager, though that particular rank no longer exists. Instead, I consider myself, along with KingOfHeart (or Humans. Whatever.) to be Open Zelda's producer. Yes. OZ is still in development, believe it or not.
I recently had my seventh anniversary here at GU. To a lot of you newer members that might not seem like much, but seven years is, as of the time of this post, almost a third of my entire life. That's a lot of time, as far as I'm concerned. Yet, somehow, I have not posted in this thread. I suppose I can oblige.
I joined the forums on April 24, 2003, when the Open Zelda project had just moved here from Armageddon Games. OZ had recently gone open source, and Kronuz was our developer. Ahhh, the past. Kronuz had an incredibly advanced beta out when school and life took most of his free time. OZ remained without a head for some time. LittleBuddy, a very good friend of mine and someone I desperately wish would come back to the forums, took over a year or so later. However, nothing came of this, as LittleBuddy felt himself too inferior to continue where Kronuz left off. To be fair, Kronuz was a very
very bright developer. A whole crap load of time went by, I somehow became a moderator, then global moderator, then project coordinator, then administrator, and then finally OZ picked up some more steam. KingOfHeart started working on the new quest pack - which essentially is the game mechanics interpreted by the engine (OZ is
incredibly flexible. It does whatever the user tells it to do. Since the core code is over 8 years old now, it's even more impressive. Had Kronuz kept up on OZ's development, we'd be, bar none, the most advanced open source free-to-use game development software on the web.
The first non-OZ friend I made on the forums, and I remember this very well, was Smokin' D. Grass. SDG, come back to chat. It's lonely with you. Joefalco and Sophia (then Marrshu) came soon thereafter. I still talk to them frequently. After a few months of OZ coming here, FBEpyon came and got a project hosted called Zelda 1 Enhanced (at last, that's the part I remember working on.). I was brought on as a project assistant (yeah that's right, MMX members, you guys can be admins here eventually if you want

), and the project ultimately went nowhere. I dunno why I was picked, since I was relatively quiet, but I became the moderator of a newly created forum called Game Ideas. I still remember FBEpyon ask, and this is a quote, "why you?" Good question, but here we are. I dunno if I've done a good job as an admin. I have brought a lot of projects here, but like all projects admins before me, they have mostly fizzled and died. Only Hyrulean Adventures and MMX are still here. =\
All in all, though, I really do like being here. If I didn't, I probably would have left a long time ago.
